Nizami Bandhu trace their lineage to the court singers of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and the fabled Qawwal Bachche of Amir Khusrau, the 13th-century poet who shaped qawwali itself. Originally of the Sikandra gharana, the family settled in Delhi nearly seven centuries ago and has sung at the Nizamuddin Dargah ever since.
Today the tradition rests with brothers Shadab Faridi Nizami and Sohrab Faridi Nizami, sons of the late Ustad Ghulam Farid Nizami — the thirty-second generation of a family that has never stopped singing. Audiences know them as Nizami Bandhu, the Nizami Brothers, and the voices of "Kun Faya Kun" from Rockstar.
A qawwal of the Sikandra gharana, Shadab carries forward the legacy of his father, the late Ustad Ghulam Farid Nizami. His range spans traditional kalam and playback singing, delivered with a voice that fills any hall it enters.
Trained from childhood in the family tradition, Sohrab brings fire and precision to the mehfil. Together the brothers trade verses in the call-and-answer that has defined qawwali since Amir Khusrau.
